Electronic Discovery
Effective April 2, 2018, electronic discovery will be mandatory and you will no longer be required to fill out the Stipulation for Electronic Discovery.  All defense attorneys will be required to  adhere to the following   procedure:

At the time of being retained or appointed you are required to email your Appearance to We will send all discovery to the email given. If you would like more than 1 email address set up in our system, please contact Erika Brenton at 517-483-6209. If you have already been using our electronic discovery process, we will use the email addresses on file and you will not need to contact the Prosecutor's Office unless there are changes.

Digital Media
We will also be implementing the use of for the police agencies that have implemented it. If there  is digital evidence that is on we will share it with you and you will receive an email link from our office to set up an account. Once you set up the account, you will receive email notifications that  there  is  evidence available at  This evidence will be available for  2000 days (a little over 5 years).  After  the 5 years, you will no longer be able to download the evidence or have access to it in If you  want to keep the evidence after the 2000 days, you will be required to download
it prior to the expiration date.

Unfortunately not allagencies are using or there may be evidence that is not able to be stored at For those agencies and/or situations you will receive a notification in the discovery packet that there is evidence for pickup at our office.

We are moving forward with these changes due to the increased cost of burning DVDs for the body cameras and also to speed up the process in providing digital media, assuming it is available to my  office.

Substitution of Counsel
If there is a substitution of counsel, you can file a Stipulation for Substitution of Counsel or file an Appearance with our office and the court. Once we confirm your Appearance has been filed at court, we will resend the discovery and any digital media.

If you have any questions on any of these procedures, please feel free to contact me at your convenience.

Very truly yours,

Mike Cheltenham
